At a time when craft beer is taking off, my pal Anthony Gladman has been training hard towards becoming one of the few beer sommeliers in the UK. While chatting through his mid-life career change, we realised he’d need a strong brand to back up the qualification, as well as the writing, consulting and food pairing he was offering.
Together we shaped his aims, target audiences, offer and many other elements that would help direct the look and feel. Like him, the brand needed to look warm, friendly, modern and well crafted.
The wordmark is built from the Circular typeface, with the repeated round bowls of the a’s, o, g and d giving the mark a unique feel.
The icon builds on those circles to craft his ‘a’ and ‘g’ into abstract but recognisable letterforms. The circles also reference the many circles involved in the beer world – cans, bottles, coasters, bottle tops etc.
